Historical and Architectural Description of the Abbey of Montescalari Founded before 1040, the Abbey of Montescalari is situated on the summit of Mount Scalajo, also known as Montescalari for its staircase-like shape. Structure and Architecture

It has a Latin cross plan, thanks to subsequent expansion works. A Robbian terracotta coat of arms, visible above the main portal and dated 1505, represents a significant element of the complex.
