Como City
A place that has inspired composers like Verdi, poets like Lord Byron and writers like Stendhal
Como is famous for being one of the most popular tourist destinations in northern Italy, thanks to the idyllic geographical context of the south-western shore of Lake Como and the slopes of the Baradello and San Fermo hills which in the distance merge with the pre-Alpine reliefs of the Brunate Mountain.
Continue readingComo has always been the most important city; in fact it gives its name to the lake. Founded by the Romans, it preserves the typical parallel streets, but nothing else remains from those times. Its imprint is distinctly medieval: the Cathedral, the basilica of San Fedele and Sant’Abbondio are masterpieces not to be missed, while the charm lies in the streets and along the remaining walls, such as the Porta Torre.
Other shades of Como can be perceived on the lakefront, where next to the moored boats there is the monument to Alessandro Volta (citizen pride), the rationalist buildings of Giuseppe Terragni and the Riva delle Ville, dotted with wonderful villas among which the magnificent Villa Olmo stands out.
